FAQs

  • Individualized learning has become a buzzword in the educational community, specifically with tutoring. Learning with Ms. M truly functions on the philosophy that no single individual fits a particular mold, so why teach as if they do? To us, it isn't a buzzword; it's the foundation of what we do. Each session is based on the previous one... which means that every lesson is created for that student, every single time. Imagine an educational experience where lessons are tailored based on someone's interests, incorporating their strengths to boost confidence and meet them exactly where they are with resources that suit their needs. We do not follow a particular curriculum, and we don't progress through "levels" of understanding. We meet our students where they are and provide a learning opportunity that is just right for them.

  • Learning with Ms. M's entire foundation is based on individualized learning. We create and curate content for each student. A set curriculum would not be conducive for the type of teaching and learning we provide.  We believe the most impactful learning is discovery-based, where learners "learn how to learn." This means we ask probing questions, reach the destination in many different ways rather than a direct teaching approach, and incorporate projects and activities into our sessions.

  • Learning with Ms. M provides all resources needed to participate in each session. We equip each tutoring suite with manipulatives, supplies, and flexible spaces. Families are more than welcome to provide notes from school, homework, or desired goals from school/home but this isn't necessary.

  • Learning with Ms. M offers a free 30-minute consultation, which is one-on-one with the tutor. We match students to an experienced educator that can provide the right expertise and energy your child needs. During the consultation, the family may wait in our lobby while the tutor and student meet. The tutor will informally assess various concepts, and get to know your child. We do this to ensure we are the right fit for your family, and to have a starting point for learning goals to move forward with. After the consultation, the tutor meets with Ms. M to create learning goals which will then be shared with the family. From that point, enrollment begins if decided.

  • Yes! We believe that partnering with teachers and families is critical to a student's success. However, this isn't required. As some tutors are former classroom educators, we realize how busy your child's teacher is, and sometimes it works best to have families act as liaisons.

  • The resounding answer is YES! Learning with Ms. M does not provide therapy or medical advice/treatment, so we do not provide services that treat these specific diagnoses. However, we love our unique learners and have plenty of training and resources to provide a safe and comfortable space for all when it comes to intervening with their learning gaps and knowledge. We find it the most helpful when tutoring is coupled with any necessary therapy/treatment, when possible.

  • This all depends on the student! Learning with Ms. M works on a semester basis, which is broken into the fall, spring, and summer semesters. We are closed for fall break, winter break, and spring break. We require a semester commitment because, at the very least, a few months of tutoring will yield some results rather than sporadic or short spurts of tutoring. Consistency and frequency is key, which is why our students meet 1-3 times weekly. We offer 45 and 60-minute sessions. However, if multiple sessions a week do not work with scheduling, we can offer 75 to 90-minute sessions. Most of our families stay with us for many semesters, sometimes years, because tutoring continues to be a place for building confidence and maintaining understanding.

  • Our sessions are $55 for a 45-minute session and $70 for a 60-minute session. Anything longer than 60 minutes is prorated by the $70/hr rate. We calculate the number of sessions per semester and then divide that into equal installments that are due on the 1st of each month. Should your family enroll mid-month, the first installment is due upon enrollment. Additionally, if enrollment begins mid-semester (halfway point or later), we also require the following semester as part of the enrollment contract.

  • We completely understand that circumstances change and that "life" happens. We are a small group of educators who treat our tutoring families as extensions of our own. Learning with Ms. M requires a 30-day notice for withdrawal, with the final installment being 50% of the remaining amount due. This goes on file as a credit that can be used at a later time when enrolling for a semester. We do not offer refunds. Missed sessions are limited to 2 make-up sessions per semester when we are given 24-hour notice, or there is an extenuating circumstance. We do not offer make-ups for no-show sessions or last-minute cancellations.
